How do I choose my 3D filament?
The choice of your 3D filament depends on a number of criteria, the most important of which are: the mechanical properties you require for your part (visual prototyping, functional prototyping, tooling, etc.), the extruded diameter (1.75mm or 2.85mm) and theopenness of third-party materials.
Most 3D printers are open and allow the use of different brands.
In terms of other criteria, you need to take into account :
- Whether or not it has a heating plate.
- The type of 3D wire feed (direct or indirect drive) via a feeder on the print head or remote.
- Whether the enclosure is closed or open.
- Its preferred packaging (cardboard or plastic reels) / (4 - 8kg refill)
The final point to consider is how easy it is to use the material. For certain materials that are more technical to print, the existence of printing profiles (optimised printing parameters) is a considerable advantage, as it increases your success rates.
