Using PolyWood

PolyWood from Polymaker is a filament that reproduces the appearance and texture of wood, but unlike other similar filaments does not contain any wood fibre.

What makes it special is the way it is manufactured: micro-bubbles of air are incorporated into the filament during production, and escape during extrusion.

This technique produces a texture and surface effect similar to that of wood, without the disadvantage of clogging the nozzle.

Thanks to the absence of wood fibres in its composition, Polywood avoids problems of nozzle clogging during 3D printing, making printing smoother and simpler. What's more, its average density of 0.8 g/cm³ makes it 30 to 40% lighter than conventional PLA.

Our recommendations for using PolyWood

PolyWood is compatible with all open 3D machines on the market, whether 1.75 or 1.75 mm 2.85mm.

We recommend that you set your printer to an extrusion temperature of between 190 and 210°C to print PolyWood under optimum conditions. A print speed of between 30 and 70mm/s and the use of a heating plate between 30 and 50°C are also recommended.

If your printer is equipped with a direct drive extrusion system, the recommended shrink distance is 1mm at a speed of 20mm/s. If your printer uses Bowden extrusion, the recommended shrink distance is 3mm and a speed of 40mm/s.
