Use of Polymaker Polymax filament PC

Polymax PC is the polycarbonate grade from Polymaker offering maximum mechanical and thermal resistance. This Polymax PC filament combines excellent overall resistance and heat resistance. It is the most rigid, solid and creep-resistant thermoplastic available for 3D printing.

Polymax PC is a technical filament that is suitable for powerful, enclosed professional printers. This filament requires particular attention to be paid to the temperature of the manufacturing enclosure. Post-print annealing is also recommended.

    Polymaker Polymax PC: key strengths

High mechanical strength: Polymax PC filament is a high performance material, rigid but strong, hard but resistant to bending, this material meets the usual durability and mechanical performance requirements.

High temperature resistance: The temperature resistance of PC is maximum in this Polymax variant. With its resistance to bending under load (1.8 MPa) of 100°C, it can be used in the most extreme environments.

Impact resistance: Polymax PC is also very attractive for its high impact resistance. It is often used as protection, cover or tooling for this aspect.

Our recommendations for use with Polymaker Polymax PC

Printing Polymax PC is not as accessible as other filaments. It requires a high extrusion temperature (>260°C), a plateau temperature of over 90°C and an enclosure that is at least closed in order to slow down the cooling of the layers and improve the inter-layer bonding of your prints. After printing, we recommend an annealing step (90° for 2 hours) to release internal tensions and strengthen your object.

Printing on Polymaker PC also requires the use of a specific glue or PEI-type coating. The adhesion of this filament can remain sensitive, especially when manufacturing medium to large format objects.
