Using PolyLite LW-PLA Bright Yellow
PolyLite LW (low weight) PLA has a reduced density (0.8 g/cm³ compared with 1.17 g/cm³ for standard PLA ).
Its printing process requires the same parameters as conventional PLA (temperature and flow rate), ensuring ease of printing and compatibility with most 3D printers.
Unlike traditional lightweight PLA, it does not cause foaming during printing, eliminating the hassle often associated with active foaming.
What is the difference between active and passive foaming? PolyLite™ LW-PLA is not an active foaming filament, meaning it will not produce foam when extruded from the nozzle as a function of temperature. PolyLite™ LW-PLA is already pre-foamed.
What are the advantages and disadvantages between active and passive foaming?
Active foaming: You need to significantly alter your print settings based on temperature and configuration to compensate for the foaming expansion of the material during printing. You need to print at a very high temperature to get light results (~250˚C), these high temperatures will create many defects on the print such as threads and burrs. At very high temperatures, active foaming can achieve a lighter print than passive foaming, however the print may suffer from severe thread defects.
Passive Foaming: You do not need to change the parameters of your usual PLA settings (slight increase in shrinkage), as the PolyLite™ LW-PLA will deliver light results even when printing at very low temperatures (~190˚C). The lower the temperature, the better the print quality.
PolyLite LW-PLA Bright Yellow: key strengths
PLA very light: PolyLite LW-PLA Bright Yellow has a low density (0.8 g/cm³ compared with 1.17 g/cm³ for standard PLA ). It prints using the same parameters as traditional PLA (temperature and flow rate), making it an easy printing option and compatible with the majority of 3D printers.
High rigidity and optimal layer adhesion: LW-PLA from Polymaker offers high rigidity and excellent adhesion between layers, allowing you to easily create robust components for your radio-controlled aircraft models. The PolyLite PLA filament features a consistent Light Yellow colour, excellent adhesion to the print bed, high dimensional accuracy, and avoids problems with warping, blocking, staining or delamination of layers.
4colours available: A matt, paint-ready print, PolyLite LW-PLA is available in white, Light Yellow, grey and wood. It produces a matte surface that hides the print layers, making it easier to paint and enabling you to achieve unique artistic results for yourself or your loved ones.
Tangle-free and moisture-proof: The 1.75mm PolyLite LW-PLA filament is carefully wound to prevent tangling, then dried and vacuum-sealed in a resealable bag fitted with a moisture absorber. Be sure to keep the end of the filament secure to avoid tangles. The holes on the side of the spool can be used to avoid this problem.
Eco-friendly spool: Supplied in version 3.0 packaging, with a spool made entirely from recycled cardboard.
