PETG / CPE Composites
PETG Composites filaments are among our favourite 3d filaments. It excels by its beautiful matt black appearance with a carbon sheen and by its excellent printability. The PETG base used to manufacture this 3d carbon composite filament guarantees robustness and good print quality. The reinforcement provided by the integrated carbon fibre is multiple: greater rigidity, greater hardness, higher thermal resistance under load, but still good general chemical resistance.
The use of PETG carbon filament is particularly useful when your applications require robustness and rigidity. Used for its performance and attractive appearance, which tends to hide the layering effect, this composite material for 3d printers is without doubt the filament offering the best compromise between performance and ease of use.
This carbon composite filament is abrasive, so it's a good idea to use a reinforced nozzle to protect your traditional brass nozzle from the wear generated by this addition of carbon fibre. This is the only point to watch out for with this type of filament spool. Available in 2.85 and 1.75 mm, it will perform equally well on direct drive and bowden printers.
We recommend the quality and price of the manufacturer forshape and its PETG Carbon, otherwise, the Breton manufacturer Nanovia also offers an approved version of this technical composite filament. If you haven't already done so, check out the PETG Carbon filaments
How to choose your PETG CF (Carbon Fiber) spool?
Choosing your PETG Composites filament is pretty straightforward, as it only exists in a carbon version. For example, Colorfabb's XT CF20 filament indicates that it contains 20% carbon fibre (CF20).
Other manufacturers, such as forshape (PETG Carbone), do not display this percentage in their name, but you can find confirmation of this percentage in their technical data sheet.
The more carbon you use, the stiffer you'll be. It's important to note that the weight of this filament is not actually lighter thanks to the addition of carbon, it simply has a better strength to lightness ratio.
Which PETG Composite filament should I buy?
When buying your spool of PETG Carbon filament, it's best to opt for European or even French products, especially as the prices of some manufacturers are still very affordable. It is important for a filament with this level of technical integration of carbon fibres to use manufacturers recognised for their expertise and manufacturing quality. Nanovia for French products and Forshape for European products.
